A concert has been arranged to raise funds and awareness of our campaign for a train service through Denton and Reddish South. It will take place at Denton West End Working Mens Club on Friday 12th October details to be published at a future date. three weeks before the concert we are having a stall in the foyer of Sainsbury’s Denton on 22nd September this date is yet to be arranged with Sainsbury’ management

Extraordinary Meeting

On the evening of Wednesday 11th August the Friends of Denton Station and The Friends of Reddish South Station met together for the first time at Stockport Labour Club to ratchet up to a higher level their campaign for a train service along the our local line which will be known as the eastern corridor. Firstly it was decided by a show of hands to arrange a meeting and invite representatives from the two councils Tameside and Stockport the Transport for Greater Manchester and Northern Rail which will be chaired by Andrew Gwynne and it was also decided to send a letter to the High Peak Council and various other councils and groups along the that paticular corridor and involve them

Completed flower beds

Flower Beds

Saturday 2nd of June a start was made on the two Flower Beds for the station platform. At 8 30 fifty bags of top soil and twenty five bags of limestone chippings arrived at the station entrance and shortly after that eight eight foot sleepers and eight four foot sleepers arrived all this material had to be transported down the stairs and onto the platform. At approx eleven forty five the job was completed now the next and final part is the flowers this will be sorted out during the next two weeks. Flower Beds

Put the date in your diaries June 2nd on that day we start the flower beds on the station platform we need plenty of Volunteers as there will be 12 railway sleepers being delivered these will have to be manhandled down onto the platform and built up so everybody will need to be wearing stout shoes and a pair of good gloves time of assembly at the station 8 15 am and if you have a good drill please bring it along THANK YOU Alan

St Mary’s Primary School

On Friday 18th 35 children and 4 teachers travelled to Stalybridge on the Denton Flyer they were all dressed in fifties style and what a turnout it was they did the school proud on the train we had the folkgroup that normally play on the folk train and they entertained on the journey to Stalybridge and a good time was had by all the only fly in the ointment was the fact that no press turned up even though they were notyfied and myself being in demand could not take many Photos
