The Friends Day in Sainsbury’s

On Saturday 22nd Seeptember The Friends of Denton Station were in Sainsbury’s supermarket Oldham st Denton to raise funds and recruit new members despite two appeals for volunteers the usual core of members turned out myself Dave Ferguson Cyrus Nayeri The secretary Helen Mottershead Anita Lunn and Dorothy Melia it was a seven hour slog but we had a fantastic result 41 new members and raising £176

During the next two months September and October there will be two events the first is in Sainsbury’s Foyer on 22nd September when we will be recruiting new members having a bucket collection and also getting signatures on our petition for a train service we will be asking for volunteers for the day please contact Alan Jones Chairman Friends of Denton Station on 07756024708

The second event is a concert at Denton West End Working Mens Club to raise funds for our group with local entertainers Mike Lacey and Peter Elliott and the Friends of Reddish South Folk Group. The concert takes place on  Friday evening the 12th October from 6 30pm. The cost of the tickets is £5 00 and will be available shortly from various outlets


A concert has been arranged to raise funds and awareness of our campaign for a train service through Denton and Reddish South. It will take place at Denton West End Working Mens Club on Friday 12th October details to be published at a future date. three weeks before the concert we are having a stall in the foyer of Sainsbury’s Denton on 22nd September this date is yet to be arranged with Sainsbury’ management

Extraordinary Meeting

On the evening of Wednesday 11th August the Friends of Denton Station and The Friends of Reddish South Station met together for the first time at Stockport Labour Club to ratchet up to a higher level their campaign for a train service along the our local line which will be known as the eastern corridor. Firstly it was decided by a show of hands to arrange a meeting and invite representatives from the two councils Tameside and Stockport the Transport for Greater Manchester and Northern Rail which will be chaired by Andrew Gwynne and it was also decided to send a letter to the High Peak Council and various other councils and groups along the that paticular corridor and involve them

Flower Beds

Saturday 2nd of June a start was made on the two Flower Beds for the station platform. At 8 30 fifty bags of top soil and twenty five bags of limestone chippings arrived at the station entrance and shortly after that eight eight foot sleepers and eight four foot sleepers arrived all this material had to be transported down the stairs and onto the platform. At approx eleven forty five the job was completed now the next and final part is the flowers this will be sorted out during the next two weeks.
